Culinary Nutrition Education To Improve Fruit and Vegetable Preferences Among Primary School Children In Jakarta, Indonesia
Adequate intake of fruit and vegetable (F&V) are known to be crucial in providing numerous
benefits during the growth and development of primary school children. Low F&Vs intake has been
investigated to contribute to the increasing prevalence of double-burden of malnutrition (i.e.,
childhood obesity and micronutrient deficiency), especially in the urban area (e.g., Jakarta city) and in
private schools. Nutrition education has been well conducted to improve healthy eating habits and preferences of children effectively. Therefore, this community development program is proposed to
enhance knowledge, attitude, practice (KAP) and self-efficacy of primary school children and expose
them to the nutrition-related activities at home regarding fruits and vegetable preferences. The program was conducted interactively using the storytelling method, real food media, games, and QnA within 1 or 2 sessions to 7 private schools across the Jakarta area (n=387 students). KAP and selfefficacy
of the children before and after the program were collected using a self-administered
