Evaluation of Sustainable Water Practice in I3L Based on UI Greenmetric Guidelines
I3L Sustainable Development Center is a newly developed department with goals to raise
awareness that I3L plans to be a sustainable campus whilst socializing its stakeholders about what
sustainable development goals are, their importance, and how we together can achieve it. This project
was conducted to evaluate the sustainability of i3L’s current water system based on UI GreenMetric
guidelines 2021 as well as proposed solutions to improve sustainability of i3L water system. An interview
with the head of i3L building management was conducted to create a basic understanding of the current
water management system, this information was then evaluated based upon UI GreenMetric Guideline
as a benchmark for sustainable campus grading. The evaluation process shows that the campus was built
with great consideration being a green campus with its sustainable water source, infiltration wells, and
sewage treatment plant however it may have fallen short in implementation, particularly in the
utilization of the recycled water produced by the sewage treatment plan. Recycled water is full of
potential and possible utilization. With the consideration of time, labor, funding, sustainability of the
system, and applicability on campus hence gardening and toilet flushing were considered as the
proposed short and long-term solutions; respectively.
