Formulation of Sulfate-Free Organic Dog Shampoo Using Natural Ingredient with Different Ratio of Surfactant and its Physicochemical Evaluation
Shampoo is a type of hair care product that is used to clean the scalp and remove the dirt. Not only for humans, shampoo is also used for animals, especially dogs. However, different from human shampoo, dog shampoo tends to be milder due to the different pH and sensitivity of dog’s skin compared to human skin. It is important to formulate a shampoo that has good properties for dog characteristics, hence, it is necessary to do evaluation for each of the formulated shampoo, including organoleptic, pH, viscosity, solubility, spreadability, and solid content. From the formulated shampoo, F2 showed the most better result compared to the F1 and F3 in the term of physicochemical evaluations. F2 showed to have a better value of pH, spreadability, solid content and solubility, while the result of viscosity is too high. The viscosity could be decreased by lowering the amount of thickening agent. However, future studies about the shampoo cleansing ability and skin irritation need to be conducted in the future to test the ability to be used directly towards the dog.
