Unmasking Gen-Z E-waste - An exploration of disposal behaviour to sustainable practices in Jakarta
This study explores the disposal behaviour regarding electronic waste, specifically mobile
phones and laptops that we are personally responsible for from the perspective of Generation-
Z. Jakarta has a growing population with E-waste amounting to a higher number day by day
and managing it is very important. To set up a good regulatory system for E-waste management,
first we need to understand the disposal behaviour of people towards it. The reason for focusing
on Generation-Z for this research would provide us with a new perspective and how the young
minds think about it and as most of the population in Jakarta belongs to that generation. This
will provide a basis for how E-waste management is designed perfectly according to the
disposal behaviour. The model used in this study is based on the theory of planned behaviour
and was adapted from another study regarding E-waste. Convenience sampling was used in
this study given the time strain and limited resources and around 79 responses was collected,
and the data collected was processed the Smart PLS (partial least square) using structural
equation modelling and the results show that only regulation positively affects the behaviour
of Gen-z regarding handling their personal E-waste (mobile phone and laptops).
