In Silico Assessment of Itchy Leaves (Laportea Decumana) Antiviral Properties Towards Influenza A Virus Strain H1N1, H5N1, and H3N2

Sun Jessica - Personal Name;

Influenza A Virus is a virus that lacks proofreading function which makes the virus have a high
mutation rate. It has several types of strains and there are three subtypes that become a major
concern due to their prevalence and pathogenicity. Those subtypes are H1N1, H5N1, and H3N2.
There are several antivirals commonly used to treat IAV like oseltamivir, peramivir, and also
zanamivir. Those antivirals work as NA inhibitors. In wild type of infection there are some cases of
resistance toward the NA inhibitors, thus herbal treatment could be the alternative. L. Decumana is
an endemic plant in Papua that contains alkaloids, triterpenoids, and also terpenoids. Those active
compounds have been proven to be IAV antiviral through the previous study. To assess the effect of
L. Decumana compounds towards IAV, the compounds are blind docked through PyRx. It is found that
the L. Decumana compounds could target several proteins of IAV like NA, HA, PA, and NP protein. The
result of the newer IAV strain also showed that L. Decumana able to inhibit the IAV
